Tips for Completing Timely & Effective Performance Appraisals

Performance appraisals have to be on the top of every supervisor’s list of favorite things to do! No? Managers and supervisors are often more comfortable giving praise with a raise than giving criticism of any kind. Performance appraisals can often include conflict and most people don’t like conflict. Because performance appraisals may involve conflict and giving criticism is often uncomfortable, managers and supervisors avoid completing performance appraisals altogether or they wait until the very last minute causing the appraisal to be useless to the employee, and to the organization.

As HR professionals we are often asked to conduct workplace investigations into various alleged acts, including, sexual harassment, fraud, misconduct, discrimination, etc., etc., etc.  The decision to investigate is sometimes requiredy by policy, regulation or statute, and at times it is due more to the politics or practices of the organization
